In The Kingdom of Fools Summary In English

In the kingdom of fools the king and the minister were idiots. They ordered all things to be reversed. They decided to change night into day and day into night. They ordered people to do day’s work in night and sleep in the day. Anyone not obeying was to be punished with death. So people out of fear did ’ as they were asked to do. This delighted the king and the minister.

Once a guru aiyd his disciple arrived in the city. They found everyone asleep during the r day. No activity was observed. It amazed them. They wandered till evening. Then the people woke up. They started doing their nightly businesses. Now the two were hungry. They bought some food items. The price of everything was same, a single duddu. This surprised and delighted them. The guru realized that it was really a kingdom of fools.

The guru decided to leave the city of fools. He asked his disciple also to leave the place. But the disciple didn’t want to do so for cheap food. The guru advised the disciple that nothing could be predicted of fools. But the disciple didn’t care. He remained behind. Time passed on. The disciple ate to his fill. As a result he became very fat.

One day a thief broke into a rich merchant’s house. He was taking out the stolen things. Just then the wall of the old house fell on his head. He was killed instantly. The brother of the thief complained to the king about his death. He blamed the owner of the house for his brother’s death.

The king heard the accused. He accused him of killing the thief. But the owner said that he was innocent. He said that the person who built the wall was responsible. He didn’t make the good wall. The king decided to summon the bricklayer.

The king asked the bricklayer if he had built the wall. He accused him of killing the thief. Before the king could order his death, the bricklayer pleaded innocence. He told the king that he could not concentrate while building the wall. A dancing girl moved in the street. So she was responsible for it.

The king charged the dancing girl of killing the thief. The dancing girl said that the goldsmith was responsible for it. She had given some gold to him. He had to make some jewellery for her. He was lazy. He did not make the jewellery early. So she had to walk up and down the street. So it was the goldsmith’s fault.

The king now ordered to summon the goldsmith. The goldsmith replied that there was a wedding in the rich man’s house. He had to make jewellery for him. So he could not finish the jewellery of the dancing girl in time.

he king declared the rich man to be the murderer. He was also the owner of that house. But he said that his father had ordered the jewellery. The king consulted his minister. He decided that the owner be punished in his father’s place. The king asked for a new stake to be made ready for the owner to die. But the owner was very thin. He could not be executed. The king was worried about it. Then he ordered to search a man who was fit for the stake. He should be executed.

The disciple was found fit for the stake. He was brought to the place of execution. The disciple now remembered his wise guru’s words. He prayed to his guru. The guru had magic powers to see the past and the future. He saw everything. He arrived at once to save his disciple. He told his disciple something in a low voice. The disciple understood this.

The guru and the disciple now started fighting. The guru wanted to die first. The king asked the guru why he wanted to die. The guru told the king in his ears that their city was unique. This was the stake of god of justice. The stake was new. It was never used earlier on crimirfals. Whoever died on it first, would be born a king. Whoever died next, would be born as a minister.

The king thought over the whole case. He didn’t want to lose the kingdom even in his next birth also. So he talked to his minister. The king said that they would go on stake themselves. Thus they would be reborn as king and minister again. The king and minister went secretly to the prison. They released the guru and the disciple. They put themselves in their places. So they were taken to the stake and executed.

The dead bodies of the king and the minister were taken down. The people mourned their deaths. They discussed the future of the kingdom. Suddenly some people thought of the guru and the disciple. They’ were secretly leaving the city. People saw them. They requested them to be their new king and the minister. But they put one condition. It was to change all the old laws. So they changed the laws.

मूर्खों के राज्य में राजा और मंत्री मूर्ख थे। उन्होंने सभी चीजों को उलटने का आदेश दिया। उन्होंने रात को दिन में और दिन को रात में बदलने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने लोगों को दिन का काम रात में करने और दिन में सोने का आदेश दिया। जो कोई नहीं मानता था उसे मौत की सजा दी जाती थी। इसलिए लोगों ने डर के मारे वैसा ही किया जैसा उनसे करने को कहा गया था। इससे राजा और मंत्री प्रसन्न हुए।

 

एक बार एक गुरु की सहायता से उनका शिष्य शहर में आया। उन्होंने दिन के दौरान सभी को सोते हुए पाया। कोई गतिविधि नहीं देखी गई। इसने उन्हें चकित कर दिया। वे शाम तक घूमते रहे। तब जाकर लोग जाग गए। वे अपना रात्रिकालीन व्यवसाय करने लगे। अब दोनों भूखे थे। उन्होंने खाने का कुछ सामान खरीदा। हर चीज की कीमत एक ही थी, एक दूड्डू। इसने उन्हें आश्चर्यचकित और प्रसन्न किया। गुरु ने महसूस किया कि यह वास्तव में मूर्खों का राज्य था।

गुरु ने मूर्खों की नगरी छोड़ने का निश्चय किया। उन्होंने अपने शिष्य को भी वहां से चले जाने को कहा। लेकिन शिष्य सस्ते भोजन के लिए ऐसा नहीं करना चाहता था। गुरु ने शिष्य को सलाह दी कि मूर्खों की कोई भविष्यवाणी नहीं की जा सकती। लेकिन शिष्य ने परवाह नहीं की। वह पीछे रह गया। समय बीतता गया। शिष्य ने भरपेट खाया। इस वजह से वह काफी मोटे हो गए थे।

 

एक दिन एक चोर एक अमीर व्यापारी के घर में घुस गया। वह चोरी का सामान निकाल रहा था। तभी पुराने घर की दीवार उसके सिर पर गिर पड़ी। वह तुरन्त मारा गया। चोर के भाई ने राजा से उसकी मृत्यु की शिकायत की। उसने अपने भाई की मौत के लिए घर के मालिक को जिम्मेदार ठहराया।

 

राजा ने आरोपी की बात सुनी। उन्होंने उस पर चोर को मारने का आरोप लगाया। लेकिन मालिक ने कहा कि वह निर्दोष था। उन्होंने कहा कि दीवार बनाने वाला जिम्मेदार है। उसने अच्छी दीवार नहीं बनाई। राजा ने ईंट बनाने वाले को बुलाने का फैसला किया।

 

राजा ने ईंट बनाने वाले से पूछा कि क्या उसने दीवार बनाई है। उन्होंने उस पर चोर को मारने का आरोप लगाया। इससे पहले कि राजा अपनी मृत्यु का आदेश दे पाता, ईंट बनाने वाले ने अपने आप को निर्दोष बताया। उसने राजा से कहा कि वह दीवार बनाते समय एकाग्र नहीं हो पाता। एक नाचती हुई लड़की गली में चली गई। तो वह इसके लिए जिम्मेदार थी।

राजा ने नाचने वाली लड़की पर चोर को मारने का आरोप लगाया। नाचने वाली लड़की ने कहा कि इसके लिए सुनार जिम्मेदार था। उसने उसे कुछ सोना दिया था। उसे उसके लिए कुछ आभूषण बनाने थे। वह आलसी था। उन्होंने ज्वैलरी जल्दी नहीं बनाई। इसलिए उसे सड़क पर ऊपर-नीचे चलना पड़ा। तो यह सुनार की गलती थी।

 

राजा ने अब सुनार को बुलाने का आदेश दिया। सुनार ने जवाब दिया कि अमीर आदमी के घर में एक शादी थी। उसे उसके लिए आभूषण बनाने थे। इसलिए वह डांसिंग गर्ल के जेवर समय पर खत्म नहीं कर पाए।

राजा ने धनी व्यक्ति को हत्यारा घोषित किया। वह उस घर का मालिक भी था। लेकिन उसने कहा कि उसके पिता ने ज्वैलरी ऑर्डर की थी। राजा ने अपने मंत्री से परामर्श किया। उसने फैसला किया कि मालिक को उसके पिता के स्थान पर दंडित किया जाएगा। राजा ने मालिक को मरने के लिए तैयार करने के लिए एक नया दांव लगाने के लिए कहा। लेकिन मालिक बहुत पतला था। उसे फाँसी नहीं दी जा सकती थी। इससे राजा को चिंता हुई। फिर उसने एक ऐसे व्यक्ति की तलाशी लेने का आदेश दिया जो काठ के लिए उपयुक्त था। उसे फाँसी देनी चाहिए।

 

शिष्य को काठ के लिए उपयुक्त पाया गया। उसे फांसी की जगह पर लाया गया। शिष्य को अब अपने बुद्धिमान गुरु के वचन याद आ गए। उन्होंने अपने गुरु से प्रार्थना की। गुरु के पास भूत और भविष्य देखने की जादुई शक्ति थी। उसने सब कुछ देखा। वह अपने शिष्य को बचाने के लिए एक बार पहुंचे। उसने अपने शिष्य को धीमी आवाज में कुछ बताया। यह बात शिष्य को समझ में आ गई।

गुरु और शिष्य अब लड़ने लगे। गुरु पहले मरना चाहता था। राजा ने गुरु से पूछा कि वह क्यों मरना चाहता है। गुरु ने राजा को अपने कानों में कहा कि उनका शहर अनोखा है। यह न्याय के देवता का दांव था। दांव नया था। इसका इस्तेमाल पहले कभी अपराधियों पर नहीं किया जाता था। जो पहले उस पर मरेगा, वह राजा पैदा होगा। जो आगे मर गया, वह मंत्री के रूप में पैदा होगा।

राजा ने पूरे मामले पर विचार किया। वह अपने अगले जन्म में भी राज्य खोना नहीं चाहता था। इसलिए उन्होंने अपने मंत्री से बात की। राजा ने कहा कि वे स्वयं दाँव पर लग जाएँगे। इस प्रकार वे फिर से राजा और मंत्री के रूप में पुनर्जन्म लेंगे। राजा और मंत्री गुप्त रूप से कारागार में गए। उन्होंने गुरु और शिष्य को मुक्त कर दिया। उन्होंने खुद को अपने स्थान पर रखा। इसलिए उन्हें दांव पर लगा दिया गया और उन्हें मार दिया गया।

 

राजा और मंत्री के शवों को नीचे ले जाया गया। लोगों ने उनके निधन पर शोक जताया। उन्होंने राज्य के भविष्य पर चर्चा की। अचानक कुछ लोगों ने गुरु और शिष्य के बारे में सोचा। वे चुपके से शहर छोड़ रहे थे। लोगों ने उन्हें देखा। उन्होंने उनसे अपना नया राजा और मंत्री बनने का अनुरोध किया। लेकिन उन्होंने एक शर्त रखी। यह सभी पुराने कानूनों को बदलना था। इसलिए उन्होंने कानून बदल दिए।
